Exclusive Interview: Tolu Babs Omish on Filmmaking, Acting, and Her Journey in Nollywood

It’s not easy, but I love both roles equally, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Tolu: I’ve always been drawn to stories that matter—stories that make people think and feel. As a filmmaker, I see it as my responsibility to highlight social issues that may not always get the attention they deserve. Whether it’s addressing trauma, inequality, or resilience, I want my work to start conversations and drive change. I’m inspired by the world around me and the incredible stories I’ve encountered throughout my life.

Interviewer: You’ve received several awards and nominations throughout your career. How does that recognition feel, and what does it mean to you?

Tolu: Every award and nomination is incredibly humbling. It’s a recognition of the hard work and passion I pour into my craft. But for me, the most rewarding part is when people watch my films and tell me how deeply they were impacted by the story. That’s the real reward—knowing that my work can touch people’s lives in a meaningful way.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to young filmmakers and actors hoping to make a name in Nollywood?

Tolu: Don’t be afraid to take risks. Nollywood is growing, and there’s room for new voices and fresh perspectives. Be authentic, stay persistent, and never stop learning. Whether you’re in front of the camera or behind it, believe in your vision and work tirelessly to bring it to life.
